What is Amatsu?

Amatsu Orthopathic therapy is a modern adaptation of a soft tissue therapy that has been practised in Japan for thousands of years.

It is based on the principles of natural movement, is non-invasive and effective in the treatment of many conditions, injuries and lifestyle related issues.

Amatsu utilises unique soft tissue pressure and mobilisation techniques, treating the body as a whole while working with the body’s soft tissue, e.g. muscles, tendons, fascia, ligaments and organs, supporting the restoration of general health and well-being.

Treatments are suitable for people of all ages.

Amatsu Orthopathic therapy is a modern adaptation of a soft tissue therapy that has been practised in Japan for thousands of years.

What to expect in a treatment

You should allow for approximately 30 to 40 minutes for an Amatsu treatment. Each treatment (also commonly referred to as a ‘balance’) is individual and tailored to your needs. Your first appointment may take longer as a full history is taken and comprehensive assessment made.

Treatments are done fully clothed. You will be asked to take off your shoes and it is recommended to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes, e.g. tracksuit bottoms, leggings or similar.

Amatsu uses soft tissue pressure and mobilisation techniques and treatments are gentle and non-invasive. What it feels like varies from person to person and depends on many factors and also on the various techniques used. Many clients find it relaxes the body and mind and creates a sense of freedom and space in the body.

Everyone is different, some people feel the effects straight away and report feeling more upright and mobile with a sense of increased energy. Sometimes the effects take a few days to be felt as the body has to go through a process of readjustment. It is also quite common to feel tired. The body is readapting and may release toxins and old patterns, a process that may be accompanied by aches and pains. You should listen to your body and get the necessary rest that will speed up the healing process.

You should make sure to drink plenty of water to keep the body hydrated and flush out any toxins.

Go for a walk! This way you will “walk in” the corrections made during the treatment which greatly enhances treatment success. Walking is the body’s own self-righting mechanism, it’s what we’re designed to do. Walk with your arms swinging freely and aim for at least 10 minutes. You will feel the difference!

Avoid any strenuous activity for a day or two and also avoid anything that may have contributed to your problem in the first place.

Maintain your newly found posture. We are all creatures of habit. Pay attention to anything in your environment that may compromise your posture. Arrange things to suit you, not the other way around. Adjust your car mirrors to reflect your more upright position and do not slump down to adjust yourself to the mirror. The same applies to your desk, computer, etc.

Most of all, listen to your body!

This depends on the individual and a number of factors such as general health, the specific problem, whether it is an acute or chronic issue, how long the problem has been there and if there is an underlying issue, any external factors that are contributing  to the problem, etc.

Many clients continue to come for regular treatments to maintain their health after their initial issue has been successfully resolved. Prevention is better than cure!

Treatments are generally suitable for most people and conditions but it is important that you inform your practitioner about all conditions, illnesses, medications, etc. so any contraindications can be ruled out. In some cases it may be necessary to get your doctor’s consent before commencing treatment.

Amatsu can be used alongside medical treatment, i.e. it is complementary and not a replacement for medical treatment.
